Ambush Game of Skate 23

After twenty-three renditions of the same contest, it’s easy to think that things can become a little stale. It’s hard to be inspired when the same group of skaters compete in the contest and the same select few seem to always win. And, although that might have been true in past Games of Skate, GOS #23 was anything but typical.

What jumped out most was how much the girls killed it. The ladies’ progression, style, and skill earned the respect of the guys. The girls were viewed and competed against as equals. Three won at least one game and advanced on to the next round. And, Miana Fishman turned heads by earning second place in the Beginner Division.

All the fresh faces in this years’ contest proved that skateboarding is an ever evolving culture with young guns always pushing it and trying to come up. Outside of skateboarding standard bearer, Niko Howard, the rest of the top spots in each division were won by new names with a different interpretation of how flat ground skating should be done.

Game of Skate #22

The rain has been torturous these past two weeks. It’s been impossible to skate throughout the entirety of ATL’s best skating season. The rain postponed Game of Skate 22 once. And, when the skies tried to shut down Game of Skate 22 for a second time, we said “nope”. Welcome to the first Game of Skate ever played inside the shop.

It was a little crazy trying to pack everyone into the shop. Much thanks to those that adapted to the circumstances with us. That’s what skateboarding is all about.

In the end, it was a battle. Here are the Division Winners:

Beginner Division:
1st Place: Andrew Bladwin
2nd Place: Gilberto Ortiz
3rd Place: Nathan Chao

Intermediate Division:
1st Place: John Summerour
2nd Place: Juan Alcantar
3rd Place: Daniel Garcia

Game of Skate 21

“The best part about Game of Skate is getting the community together for a fun day of skateboarding”.

– Stormy Pruett

Yep. That’s what Game of Skate is all about. Twenty-one times we have amassed the local skate scene into the Ambush parking lot in an effort to bring everyone together for a friendly competition. Sure, this one was a little smaller than some of the other Games of Skate in the past. But, the vibe was one of the best. Those that came were there for the skateboarding, camaraderie, and, of course, to see who can dominate the flat ground. And, the one thing that was proven throughout the day is that everyone has been getting really, really good at skateboarding.

As all of you know this past weekend was the Legacy Game Of Skate. As usual, we had a great turn out, great music, and great people skating, watching, and working the event. Rumor out there that this might have been the last Game of Skate. We might be taking all of our new skate contest to Swift Cantrell Skatepark when it opens. Only time will tell. Big congrats to all of the winners! Lets see who all came out:

Mazza Mondays: Halloweekend

This past weekend was real good. Josh Butler benefit was a great time. Thanks for everyone that came out and helped! Much respect even though we did see a couple pressure flips, completely stopped tricks, and some clowns not liking the judges calls. Well, at least we know now who didn’t read the last blog!

Let’s not forget that this was the official weekend of Halloween. So you know some weird s#!t was going down. The Spot: Sampson street. Never fails. Buddin had his first Sampson street experience. He definitely seemed like he enjoyed it.

Sunday was a dreadful day. With the sucky weather and Zeke‘s smelly ass socks stinking the whole house up. Everyone just kinda hung out played some COD and slept to recover from the previous night. That’s it for now here some pictures to enjoy.

Mazza Mondays

Yo what’s up what’s good what’s happening? Nothing much over here just chillin’ with Stormy, Marvin, Brian, and Charlie at the shop today. Ready for the weekend to come up. Party, shred it up and other BS.

The Game of Skate is next weekend. I’d thought i’d go over a list of things of how to properly skate in a game of skate so we can make it an awesome enjoyable event for all of us.

1. Pop your tricks

2. SPEED. We don’t want any complaining when the judges don’t count your trick when you come to a complete stop when you land.

3. No pivots. Do your rotation tricks at FULL rotation. We understand you need to do a little bit of skirchin on some tricks. At the judges discretion though will determine if it counts or not.

Ambush Game of Skate #16

Skateboarders are quite possibly the most enthusiastic people on the planet. I know we may seem spaced out, aloof, and disinterested, but that’s part of our charm. When it comes to skateboarding, we are all in.

The Ambush Game of Skate is the most consistently rock solid event in the Atlanta skateboard scene, and it is  the gusto of the participants that makes the contest what it is. No vibes here…just a couple hundred skateboarders pursuing their passion. Everyone was hanging out, rooting their friends on, and tapping their boards in respect for a banger trick. It’s as if we were all in this together and the competition was just a way to express our personal individuality throughout the day. And that’s what skateboarding is all about.
