Wakeboarding Hall of Fame – Chuck Morrow

    CHUCK MORROW

12/12/1964 – 09/01/2017

Wakeboarding had existed for a few years before Chuck Morrow founded Ambush Board Co. and Buywake.com, but it was still a small, burgeoning industry.  The products were being improved at a rapid clip with major innovations taking place in design, function, and construction for both boards and bindings.  But, how wakeboards were being sold at retail was stuck in the dark ages.

Boat dealerships were the primary source of distribution for wakeboards until Chuck established Ambush Board Co. (https://www.ambushboardco.com) in the summer of 1997.  Most boat dealers would relegate an unused corner of the sales floor to a few of mid-grade wakeboards and call it a “pro shop.”  Enthusiasm for wakeboarding was rising, but the dealers at the time were more focused on selling boats than boards, and their knowledge of the products and of the sport itself were minimal at best.  If wakeboarding were going to grow, it needed a focused, passionate advocate at the retail level. Catching Up With The Crew

To me, it’s always seemed like getting footage is cyclical. Sometimes, it comes easy and the crew logs several minutes a week and then the next week, nothing. While the process can certainly feel tedious at times, it’s absolutely worth it. When there is enough footage to stitch something together, it doesn’t get much better than that! So it always gets me hyped to see anyone from our team putting out footage. No matter the format or platform.

First off, we got Travis Glover skating through Spain with Chaz Ortiz in this clip for JBL Audio. Yo Travis! Let me get some headphones! Read More >

A Man’s Best Friend – Film by Marvin Siclait

A scene from Marvin's film "A Man's Best Friend".

It goes without saying that filming making and photography are integral parts of skateboarding. The task of filming or taking photos of your friends skating often acts as a conduit towards other creative endeavors. Recently our very own customer service wizard, Marvin Siclait put together a badass short film. I had no idea that Marvin makes shorts, nor, did I know he is in film school. With that I had to know more, check out his latest work and find out more about the filmmaker below.

Part 2:

Interview with Marvin:

First things first. How long have you been making skits and how’d you get into it?

I started making skits in the 8th grade and got really involved with film & video all throughout high school and now college. Read More >

The Traveling LTD Project Wrap Up

Spreading the love of wakeboarding is something we have been doing since day one.  Ambush Board Co. and Slingshot team riders Shredtown got together and produced a limited run of 15 wakeboards that featured a alternate colorway with additional graphics of their 2014 pro model.  The Co-op was intended to stoke out fans of Shredtown and Ambush and give them the opportunity to own a piece of wakeboard history.  In doing so we came up with the idea to send one board all over the country for people to try and this became The Traveling LTD Project.  It was a simple process of simply signing up and patently waiting by the phone for your chance.  With a select few getting the opportunity they would in turn get to keep the board for a week (sometimes two) to see what they could do on it.  The overwhelming reply from everyone was that they absolutely loved the board and we instantly converted Slingshot fans.  It’s these opportunities to allow people to try something new or different that give us a great sense of helping wakeboarding move closer to the masses.  With so many cable parks opening up regionally the cost of wakeboarding is slowly but surly bringing new people to the sport.
