The [re]aWAKEning Wrap-Up

Atlanta area wakeboarding has entered a new era. Much has changed in the three years since our last wakeboard contest. A new breed of rider is now dominating the podium. Young and hungry rippers, led by the Jackson Five, are pushing the old guard aside. Exit Rhett Whatley; enter Tripp Brown. Brett and Brandon Lee? Are you sure you’re not thinking of Justin Lee?

As different as The [re]aWAKEning was, some things never change. Britt Rothove rode well and placed again, Paul “Turbo Urbo” Urbanowski helped us understand what wakeboarding is really all about, and the skies predictably poured rain all over the contest site.

Although the weather was rough, Lake Arrowhead was perfect. And, the rain kept all the kooks away.

Wakesurfing has boomed in popularity since our last Wake contest. The level of competition was proof that Wakesurfing ain’t no fad.

The wakeskaters ripped, as well. We nearly had an all Ambush podium.

But, wakeboarding is still king. Everyone from the Beginner to Open divisions killed it.
