Go Skateboarding Day 2014

As everyone knows, June 21st is National Go Skateboarding Day. We at Ambush wanted to make sure that this day gets the proper recognition it deserves. And, we wanted to give all skateboarders a day of enjoyment. So, the Ambush crew headed up to Kennesaw Skatepark. Video game booths, misting stations, pizza, and the RedBull MTX truck were just some of the things providing the entertainment that day. Prizes were given out for best tricks and random skateboard trivia questions that were answered. Well, I don’t wanna bore everyone with words, so here is a little montage that recapped the whole day! If you missed it this year well we look forward to seeing you next year!

Element No Board Left Behind in Kennesaw, Georgia

This past Friday was the Element No Board Left Behind event here at Ambush Board Co. If you had an old deck laying around the house, Element was kind enough to bring all there supplies to cut it into a cruiser shape for FREE! Also if you bought an Element deck the day of the event you, received free cruiser wheels and trucks courtesy of Element! Pretty sick deal if you ask me. Sorry for those who missed out.

On the scene hanging out were Element pros Levi Brown and Evan Smith. Big thanks to them for coming to hang out. They are some chill dudes! The Legend himself Donny Barley was on hand as well cutting your boards personally just for you! He did an awesome job. Big thanks to Andy Dicker for providing the entertainment while everyone was getting there decks hooked up! Huge thanks to Element and everyone who came out to get there boards cut. Looking forward to seeing everyone in the future.

Red Bull Illume – Piedmont Park – Atlanta, Georgia

Piedmont Park will play host to the Red Bull Illume each night from March 20th – 30th from sundown through 11PM. You can catch some world class photos from some of Red Bull’s finest photographers.  All of the photos are in big light boxes that are glowing throughout the park. During the opening event, Red Bull skydivers parachuted out of a plane and as soon as they landed all the light boxes lit up. I was able to make it out on opening night to capture the Ambush team riders skating the mini ramp and putting on a show on for the crowd. During their session, some of the Red Bull photographers shot some ill photos with them. After all the madness of skydiving and skateboarding, the Ambush Crew was able to get in the VIP party where all drinks and food were on Red Bull! It was pretty dang sweet. That pretty much sums up the whole night! Here are the photos of what I saw. And, Max made a sick edit of the night too.

March Radness Recap

This past Saturday we hosted the very first contest, called March Radness, over at the new Kennesaw Skatepark. We had no clue what to expect. We were just hoping for the best and biggest to turn out. I must say it was everything we were wanting and more! People of all age groups were there. Dads competing. Girls competing. Young and old bucks blasting huge airs. Moms and grandmas watching. And, the Vans Tour bus with Tony Alva rolled through. It was great.  Doing raffles throughout the day to keep families entertained. Multiple photographers and videographers covering the event. We really couldn’t ask for much more. After that, it was all up to the skating for the rest of the action, which I was able to get plenty of photos of for you guys to check out. Huge thanks to all the sponsors and people that helped make this contest bad ass!

65 Degrees and Sunny

In my opinion, there is only one thing to do on a perfect weather day. That is go skate. Cool, blue skies, a light breeze and fresh Georgia air got me out of the house real quick. I rounded up a couple of the Ambush boys Wes and Zeke as well as the good homies Dakota Plumley and Brenden Lagna. We all met up at the new Kennesaw Skatepark to start a sweet day of shredding. We put in a solid 5 hours of non stop skating. Here is a little montage to show what we got!

R.I.P. Black Diamond Skatepark

In 2001, Discover Mills Mall was lucky to be blessed with an amazing skatepark designed by the one and only Camp Woodward. At the time is was named Woodward Skatepark. It had everything every skater dreamed of. It had handrails, kinked handrails, a foam pit, spines, vert ramp, mini mega ramp, euro gaps, and ledges of all sizes. Although it was such an amazing place, they struggled to stay open. The skatepark closed three times for months on end, collecting dust until someone stepped in to open it back up. It went from Woodward Skatepark to X Games Skatepark to United Skatepark, and it’s last label, Black Diamond Skatepark. About 2 months ago we heard rumor it was closing down for good. I didn’t believe it until I saw pictures of them actually taking the ramps apart. It was home to many amazing skaters like Travis Glover, Jordan Lucas, Warren Devarennes, and Anthony Dodaro. Those guys would probably not be where they are today if it wasn’t for that park opening. It’s always a bummer seeing a skatepark close. I was lucky enough to get out with some of the Ambush guys for one last shred! Here’s what we got. R.I.P. 2001-2014.

March Radness is Coming!

What’s up everyone? Ambush is proud to announce that it will be hosting the first contest at the new Kennesaw Skatepark called March Radness. No mushy flat ground game of skate. This is REAL street/pool style skateboarding for your eyes to see. This is your chance to show Ambush what you got and show the City of Kennesaw why it was such a good idea building this park. Don’t wanna compete? It’s free to watch and come hang out with the Ambush crew. There will be tons of talented locals putting on a awesome show!  Big thanks to all the sponsors that help contribute to making this contest happen!

Check out the trailer to see just a glimpse of the action that will be going down!

Ambush Mini Riot Presented by Red Bull – Full Recap

Screen Shot 2014-01-27 at 12.52.40 PMPeak retail season is over. The hard work is done and Mazza Mondays are back in full force. There is no better way to start off 2014 than with an awesome mini ramp contest! Early morning yawns and 30 degree weather aren’t enough to stop skateboarders from coming out to compete for $500 bucks! Huge thanks to Red Bull for putting the contest together and Jonah Owings from Hazard County Skatepark  for constructing a flawless mini ramp!

This is how the contest worked: two divisions (Cruisers and Shredders), 32 skaters in each division, 4 man heats with each rider getting two 45 second runs, and the best one advances. Second place winners earned $250 cash and first place winners earned $500 cash! People from all over came out to compete for that big purse money. Huge thanks to all the people and companies that came out to support the contest. This was probably one of my favorite contests that was have hosted so far. Well that’s enough rambling from me. I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking!

Big congrats to the Cruisers Division winners Matt Hudson (1st) and Chris Colmenero (2nd) and the Shredders Division winners Gage Gum (1st) and Trey Abad a.k.a. CatNip (2nd).

Mazza Monday: Another Monday

It’s still summertime and I’m living the good life.

Last weekend I rode the MegaBus up to Nashville, TN with Max and CatNip. Boy was that a good time. We did a lot of skating, met the Fully Torqued RV Tour guys and partied our asses off. To give you the info on the Fully Torqued RV Tour, it’s Clint Walker’s RV that he is living in for a whole year. Clint is traveling the U.S with people from the Ambig and Birdhouse teams. Clint Walker, Clive Dixon, Dirty the Photographer, Trevor Vaughan and filmer Trevor Owens were all out on the road together. Clint has a cousin that lives in the boonies of TN with a bunch of land. So, Clint was nice enough to pack the RV full of the three of us and all the Nashville homies and take us out there. Chugging, grilling out and shooting mad fireworks! It was an awesome time. Big thanks to Clint!

This was Intense

It seems the Kennesaw Skatepark is coming along real nice like! I’m hyped for it to be finished. I wish they were sticking to the original design though. Oh well. It’s still going to be a fun place to skate. By the way, it’s looking it should be done within a month! I can’t wait to seeing everyone up there.

Almost Done!

And last but not least, I’m kinda bummed right now that I couldn’t make it down to Tampa, FL to see the Black Sabbath concert. Literally EVERYONE went! All the Ambush dudes and their girls plus a few more. Oh well. Hopefully they will get some good videos and photos! Well, that’s it for this Mazza Monday! LATER!
