Ambush Turns 15

Ambush Boarding Co. is about to celebrate its 15th Anniversary.  In observation of the last decade and a half, let’s take a look back and see just how long 15 years really is:

When Ambush opened in June of 1997, Bill Clinton was president, Ally McBeal and Dawson’s Creek were considered great television, Michael Jordan just won his fifth of six NBA championships, and Titanic won Best Picture.

In 1997, only 18% of households had the internet.  As of 2010, over 80% are online (the other 20% live in caves).  Similarly, only 18% of the U.S. population had cell phones in 1997.  That figure is now upwards of 97%.  S#!t, nearly 60% of cell phones now have the internet.  In 1997, text messaging didn’t exist, Google was still a research project, and a gallon of gas cost $1.20 on average.

Myspace (founded 2003), Facebook (2004), YouTube (2005), Twitter (2006), and Instagram (2010) weren’t even invented yet.  Neither was Circa (founded 1999), Lakai (1999), Enjoi (2000), Baker (2000), Krew (2002), or Fallen (2003).

The most popular, and now defunct, brands from that era were A-Team, Silverstar, World Industries, Maple, and 101.  Wakeboards didn’t have bindings (they had sandals), wakeskates and wakesurfers didn’t exist, and puffy shoes with painters jeans were all the rage.  In 1997, Ambush sold more CDs than skateboards.

We’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings and we’ve had a lot of fun in the process.

So, now that you’ve had a brief history lesson, commemorate this milestone with us.  On June 15th, we’ll be celebrating 15 years of Ambush Boarding Co.  Throughout the day, Ambush will be offering 15% off everything in the store, a Skullcandy DJ will be mixing out of the Red Bull MXT Urban Assault truck, there will be free food and drink, tons of giveaways, and some ledges and rails for you to jam on.  A private party will follow the event.

Thank you for all your support.
